With a steady increase in the population of Pimpri Chinchwad, the need and demand for development increases. Unless controlled and planned, development in a city would lead to a disarrayed future and it is necessary for the city to take steps for mitigation and adaptation. Pimpri Chinchwad intends to take such steps to develop in an equitable and sustainable manner.

To enable this approach, PCMC has launched its Sustainability Cell within its governance structure which would be a focused unit to carry out initiatives that are innovative and lead towards sustainable development. The cell would be in alignment with the PCMC City Strategy Plan for 2030 and align its objectives to its strategic outcomes. It would also target to achieve the goals set by various national and international frameworks for a holistic output.
